Gracie Grimes is FNLC’s ECO Americorps member for the 2024-2025 year. Gracie grew up in southern Alabama where she spent most of her time with her friends and family on Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, forming her love for the environment and water.
In May of 2024, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in urban environmental studies from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama.
Here, she developed necessary skills for working in environmental organizations and was a part of several research projects that prepared her for her service this upcoming year. She spent her senior year studying the effects of urban environments on migratory bird populations and determining ways that cities may be able to lessen their impacts. During her time at BSC, she was mentored by multiple professors who encouraged her to make the move to Vermont!
In her upcoming year here, she aims to gain a deeper understanding of the Lake Champlain basin and communicate with the members of the community that have spent a large portion of their lives depending on the body of water. She is excited to meet new people and extend community outreach opportunities wherever she can.
